Martyn’s Law Included in the King’s Speech – to become law in 2024

Martyn’s Law, proposed by Figen Murray OBE, the mother of  Manchester Arena attack victim Martyn Hett, is set to become law after being included in this year’s King’s Speech.

The legislation aims to require public venues with a capacity of more than 100 people to implement training and security measures to combat terrorism or face sanctions.

This important bill was mentioned among 21 others in the 2023 King’s Speech, which outlines the government’s legislative plans for the coming year.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had promised to pass Martyn’s Law in a phone call to Figen Murray on her son’s birthday in December 2022. Figen has worked tirelessly advocating for this law to prevent other families from experiencing the devastating effects of terror attacks.

Commenting on the proposed legislation Westminster’s Head of Sales, Lorraine Hellend, stated:
