The Westminster Group Plc., as industry specialists and project partners, were recently invited to take part in the 1st Qatar Wireless Security Seminar that took place on The Pearl-Qatar which is a prestigious multibillion dollar development in Doha, Qatar.

The event was held to introduce new Wireless Security regulations that will drastically change the face of current ICT infrastructure. The new regulations will come into effect on the 1st of July 2014 and aim to bring Qatar up to speed with global standards, replacing current fibre-optic cable networks with highly secure wireless systems.

A select list of approximately 80 attendees from a variety of organisations such as the Ministry of Interior, Kempinski Hotels, Commercial Bank of Qatar, Qatar Petroleum, Atkins, Shangri-La Hotels, the Qatar’22 World Cup committee and of course The Pearl-Qatar security management team themselves.

The seminar was opened by Chris Ford, Security and Police Advisor to UKTI. Speaking on the impact of the new regulations, Chris Ford said: “The changes to wireless internet regulations mean wireless security solutions are now more practical and will greatly assist with the effective implementation of Qatari projects.”

Chris Ford added “The British security industry is a world leader in innovation, quality and service and the companies we have introduced today, Wavesight, Wavestore and Westminster Group will lead the way in Qatar with wireless security solutions. They are companies with a proven track record both in the UK and globally. I believe that the innovative products and solutions these three companies provide will be of great benefit in shaping Qatar’s wireless security needs for the future.”

Westminster Group was represented by Laurence Summers, Sales Director of Westminster International. Laurence spoke specifically about the security challenges now facing Qatar and the future development of wireless communications for security systems as well as the integration of the many security solutions that Westminster Group and their partners can provide into a user friendly Command & Control operation. Laurence also spoke on the abilities of Westminster’s specialist training business, Longmoor, to provide a structured approach and the forward planning required for the necessary training requirements which will be essential to support the electronic technology deployment as well as the training of operatives for these new systems. The services and expertise of the group’s managed services business, Westminster Aviation Security Services, was also discussed and in particular the provision of AVSEC training and services for the new Doha Hamad International Airport.

Following the event a series of one to one meetings took place with various parties who expressed interest at the event for Westminster Group to talk further with them about the various services that they could provide for the numerous projects that are currently available within Qatar. As a result of these further discussions Westminster Group received immediate requests from two leading organisations in Qatar for a range of security solutions.
