Westminster provides key note speaker at major Oil & Gas conference in India

Westminster Group Plc has provided a keynote speaker on security issues facing the Oil and Gas industries at the prestigious Oceantex 2010 Conference & Exhibition in Mumbai.

India is the 8th largest oil consumer in the world and expected to be the 5th largest by 2025. Oceantex, held on 3-6th March 2010, is India’s largest Oil & Gas event and involved about 225 exhibitors, including over 50 overseas companies from 18 countries.  Organisers estimated that some 8-10,000 visitors attended the exhibition.

Westminster’s appointed agent in the sector, Birla Technical Services, had a 5m x 5m stand at the exhibition promoting Westminster’s wide range of security solutions including pipeline security and the protection of Oil & Gas facilities both on and offshore.

The 2 day conference, running alongside the exhibition, attracted around 1,500 delegates including many senior executives and decision makers in the Oil & Gas industry, featured 85 speakers from leading companies around the world deliberating on state of the art technologies and trends in the Asian Oil & Gas industry sector.

Westminster was asked to provide a keynote speaker for the 5th March session as industry specialist dealing with security issues. Westminster’s Director for Middle East & Asia, Mr Peter Lalor, gave a paper entitled ‘Perimeter & Pipeline Protection, Leak Detection and Anti-Terrorism Risk Detection for Oil & Gas Installations and Refineries’; a huge and vitally important issue for the Oil & Gas industry. The session was chaired by Mr Hubert Mignot, CEO (India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh) of Bureau Veritas. Also speaking during the ‘Asset Integrity Management’ section were Mr. David Ammerman, Engineering Manager from L&T Gulf Pvt Ltd (covering Pipeline Integrity Management) and Mr. Andrew Mills, Principal Integrity Engineer from Wood Group Integrity Management in Jakarta (covering Lifecycle Integrity in Deepwater Developments).

Peter’s talk covered a wide range of issues and potential solutions relating to the Oil & Gas industry, including terrorism and common methods of attack, strategies for dealing with and limiting such attacks, intelligence gathering, threat identification and planning, target hardening, blast protection and of course pipeline security solutions.
