Westminster International Ltd has been awarded a new contract for the provision of specialist blast containment for Mercedes Benz at their High Performance Engines division within the UK.
Mercedes approached Westminster with a requirement to provide blast protection around the test rigs for their Formula One engine development programme in order to prevent serious injury or damage in the event of component failure during high speed testing.
Using their knowledge of blast containment technology Westminster designed a solution based on a new concept in blast protection called Waterwall.
The Waterwall system will comprise of bespoke material bags which, when filled with water, create a unique and highly effective protective wall and which will contain an explosion or loose parts flying off the test rig at high speeds.
